County Mayo - Davitt Death Centenary
The following pictures were taken during a trip to Straide, County Mayo during a celebration of the centenary of Michael Davitt's death.

June 2nd 2006, saw the centenary of the burial at Straide, County Mayo, of Michael Davitt.
The day started with mass at Straide, offered by Davitt's oldest surviving grandson, Rev. Thomas Davitt, C.M., who concelebrated with the parish priest.
Later in the day there was a reception hosted by Mayo County Council at Castlebar.
A specially commissioned limited edition portrait of Davitt was presented to family members
Lunch followed in the Imperial Hotel, famous in history as the place where the Land League was established in 1879. Family and friends enjoyed a meal in the room that displays an earlier portrait of Davitt.
At a wreath-laying ceremony at Straide in the afternoon, Eamon O Cuiv, Minister for the Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht, and the Islands, represented the Irish government, while Dr. John Dunleavy, presented a floral tribute on behalf of the Irish Heritage in Haslingden Committee.

Depicts several generations of the Davitt family. Of the eleven surviving grand-children Fr. Thomas Davitt, C.M., is recognisable with has Roman collar. The only non-family members are Anne and Bernie O'Hara(extreme right standing) ; John Dunleavy (seated, front left); and Cllr Henry Kenny, wearing his chain of office as chair of Mayo County Council.
